About the organization:
Metro Studio situates contemporary Inuit art from the Kinngait (Nunavut) community in a dynamic global conversation. Working in partnership with the West Baffin Cooperative and Kinngait Arts Foundation, Metro Studio presents an annual program of exhibitions and public events exploring this unique form of expression and its broader international gravitas. Metro Studio is based at 401 Richmond, Toronto.
About the placement:
Metro Studio is seeking a student who is interested in gaining hands-on experience preparing for an exhibition Drawn to the Edge: Visualizing Sea Ice in Kinngait. Opening in November 2026, the intern will assist in selecting the artworks to be included, researching and writing object labels and interpretative text, and organizing other digital exhibition materials including photographs and satellite imagery. They will also have the opportunity to contribute a short essay to an exhibition catalogue should they wish. The intern will also be expected to work shifts at the gallery during opening hours and/or special events to welcome visitors and gain a better understanding of gallery operations.
The successful intern will have supervision from our Exhibitions Coordinator, Cheryl Rondeau and guest curator Isabelle Gapp (Assistant Professor, University of Aberdeen).
We welcome interns for both in person and remote work. The student must be available in person the week commencing 2 Feb 2026, for a meeting with the guest curator.
Timing or hours of placement: The placement is up to a maximum of 8-10 hours per week for 12 weeks during the winter 2026 semester (January to April). Flexible timing throughout the week. Placement begins the week of January 5.
Credit: Half credit (0.5). This internship is for pass/fail course credit at the University of Toronto through the Department of Art History. Only University of Toronto students are eligible. This is not a paid position.
