Art History Internships

Arts-based internships are open to undergraduate students at the University of Toronto through the Department of Art History. Offered as a course credit (FAH481H1), these internships provide advanced students with the opportunity to work with local organizations for a semester or academic session.

Please note that given high demand for placements, students must apply to the course through the opportunities listed below.* Only selected applicants will be enrolled in the course—students cannot enroll themselves in this course through Acorn.

As a learning opportunity, a wide range of skills, experience, and potential are considered in the selection process. While all students of upper-year standing are welcome to apply, priority will be given to students in their final year of study. Applicants should have significant background in Art History, with priority given to applicants who have enrolled as a Major or Specialist in Art History.

*Please note that students are also welcome to find their own internship opportunities: see Other Internship and Experiential Learning Opportunities for instructions.

All applications should include 1) a cover letter, including details of any relevant coursework and experience and 2) a resume. Please include your student number and UofT email address in your application. Be sure to note any special requirements for the application for each listed positions and address them, as needed, in the application.

If you wish to apply to multiple postings, please list your preferences in your cover letter. You do not need to submit more than one application.

Need help with your resume and cover letter? Check out the Resume and Cover Letter Module Series from UofT Career Exploration & Education!

Questions can be directed to Professor Jessica Mace via email (jessica.mace@utoronto.ca)

Submit your application here by Friday, June 5, 2026 at 11:59pm.

Applications will be reviewed by Department of Art History faculty members to ensure that placements will be a good fit for the student and for the partner organization.

In some cases, partner organizations may wish to schedule a brief interview with students prior to the final acceptance. Interviews for the fall term will be held the week of June 15-June 19, 2026. Students should be prepared and available to meet in person or remotely that week, as needed.

Students will be notified of the decision by the first week of July.

Successful applicants will subsequently be enrolled in FAH481 for the Fall 2026 session by the Art History Undergraduate Office. The student must be enrolled in the term in which the internship will take place.

Please note that students are also welcome to find their own internship opportunities. See the Internship FAQ page or Other Internship and Experiential Learning Opportunities for instructions.
