Abstract:
Egyptian mummies can tell many stories. There are tales of the modern fascination with mummified human remains, and then there's the story of particular ancient people, their lives and afterlives. This talk will examine the rather gruesome introduction of Egyptian mummies into post-medieval Europe, and then tell the story of Antjau, the ancient Egyptian who's been resident of the Royal Ontario Museum since about 1904, and of Canada for much longer. Did you know he came from Cobourg?
