Structured around a series of exercises this workshop will explore free-writing as a tool to generate writing quickly and brainstorm ideas to kick start writing projects. Participants in the workshop will also explore the different kinds of free writing.

During this workshop, participants will explore:

  • Free writing rules, different forms of free writing and how to free write to prompts.
  • Different ways to warm up before writing.
  • How to generate prompts tailored to a specific project.
  • How to use free writing to brainstorm ideas, refine an argument and kickstart writing at any stage of the process.
  • How to use free-writing to warm up before a specific writing task.

The workshop closes with a writing exercise based on your free writing to prepare you for your first draft.

How to Prepare: Please bring any outlines for papers you are currently working on.

Light refreshments will be served!
