Description

The Department of Art History Guest Lecture Series is pleased to present:

Wanda Nanibush, Curator, Indigenous Art, Art Gallery of Ontario

"Matter and Memory in Indigenous Art"

Focussing on how artists attend to, expand and experiment with the materials in their work offers an opening to understanding relations between matter and memory in contemporary art. Nanibush will look at artists use of specific histories of materials, traumatic experiences and desires for memorialization within Indigenous art to build new histories of materiality and sense. In the process memory is no longer tied to fact or cultural use value.

All welcome! Light refreshments will be provided.
