The Department of Art History extends its congratulations to Professor Mikinaak Migwans as a recipient of the 2023 UTFA Academic Citizenship Award for their work with the Scholar Strike Canada group. UTFA (University of Toronto Faculty Association) selected this group as it represents exemplary efforts by UTFA members to support communities both internal and external to the University of Toronto.
The Faculty Association specifically acknowledged Professor Migwans for their role in organizing and sponsoring virtual teach-ins and other labour actions in solidarity with Black Lives Matter, to challenge systemic violence that disenfranchises Black, Indigenous, and racialized people.
